We are thrilled to help Maisie achieve her goal of a new set of Wheels. Maisie visited the Loveday & Partners offices to show them off and was an absolute delight to meet. If you need inspiration, then you only have to chat to Maisie for a moment to get it. Maisie’s new wheels give her the freedom to enjoy the activities we normally take for granted. They are especially helpful when making day trips or holidays where the facilities on offer are not able to support Maisie’s needs. The money for Maisie’s new wheels came from a fundraising ball, epic sponsored cycle ride and other support (which we are proud to have been part of). So why did Maisie need new wheels?
In January 2016 this beautiful then 10 year old girl was diagnosed with brain tumour. Until this time Maisie led a normal fun filled active life but nothing prepared us for what lay ahead.
Maisie underwent a 7 hour operation in February 2016 during which her surgeon successfully remover 80% of ‘bob’ (Maisie’s name for her tumour) but unfortunately following this, she was left unable to walk or do anything for herself. She then underwent a further operation to have a tracheostomy fitted which assists her to breath with the help of a ventilator and in order to feed Maisie she had to have a gastrostomy button fitted directly into her stomach.
Everything life has thrown at this girl she has taken, digested, coped with unbelievably well and above all else, she has smiled. Maisie spent 9 months in Addenbrookes in 2016 where she underwent 4 operations, numerous MRI’s and treatments, not forgetting a 6 week course of radiotherapy and recently backwards and forwards to Addenbrookes every 2 weeks for the latest treatment. She is truly an absolute inspiration to us all and Darrell and I could not be any more proud of her than we are. We have done and will continue to do things to try and make Maisie’s life easier and more enjoyable, after all she is still a normal 12 year old girl and still likes all the things that other girls do – we just have to think about how we make these things possible.
